1974 De Tomaso Pantera
This is an exquisite example of a Pantera that has maintained its originality where it matters, but has been updated to make it a more drivable vehicle. The correct 351 engine has been fully rebuilt, as has the transaxle with updated half shafts (massive job). The suspension has been rebuilt, as has the brake system (hydraulic and mechanical). Even the headlamp raising system has been updated for consistent operation.
The original Campagnolo rims are included with the car, and have been refinished and look incredible. The current rims are on for drivability with modern rubber for safety. Brand new BMW M5 seats (which will bolt straight into the vehicle) come with the car if the full asking price is paid. They are much more comfortable than the factory seats, if you aren't too tall...
The interior is mostly original. The seats have been refinished and are excellent quality. A harness system is currently installed, and the original seatbelts come with the car, along with a box full of parts (including chrome front and rear bumpers if you prefer that look). An aftermarket stereo has been installed, as have a few small handy things like a start button, to reduce the load that the factory runs through the ignition switch.
The documentation (provenance) that comes with the vehicle is incredible, 3 folders of history. Receipts dating back to 1989 with a detailed restoration log. I've not seen a vehicle with such a comprehensive history before. If you want to know who re-gassed the strut for the engine bonnet, the details are there. What kind of horn has been installed? Details in the folder. There is an email from Nulon confirming their recommendations for the ZF transaxle oil. US certificate of title, import approval etc all there.
I am the seventh owner, and I am looking for the eighth. If you join the De Tomaso registry website you will find more information on this vehicle under #6791. This vehicle is well known to the Pantera Club of NSW.
Selling as I just don't drive it as much as a car like this should be driven. Plus I'm looking at importing an exotic from the UK. Not in a rush to sell, so don't bother sending me lowball offers. Price is firm.
I used to think the Pantera was a bit of a cult car, with a few die hard fans but otherwise not well known. Nothing could be further from the truth. At car shows it draws a crowd of Pantera fans. Even in the carpark at Costco you get people running up to it yelling PANTERA!
This really is a 'pants-tearer', make it yours!
